Easter Sails in Cesenatico

During the Easter period in Cesenatico many events are organized to celebrate the arrival of the first sun and warm spring days.
The main event, which has been held for many years, and attracts many visitors from Italy and abroad, is surely the "Easter Sails".

"Easter Sails", known as the Formula 1 of the Sails, reaches it's 37th edition in 2012 and will take place , once again, off of Cesenatico.

Each year many visitors come to applaud the best skippers of the world, even because Easter Sails is free : all that you have to do is go to Cesenatico's west promenade or the west beach, near Marconi square.
The races take place about half a mile from the coast, allowing everyone to enjoy the show and cheer for the sailboats that they prefer.

This sailing event brings 200 colourful and elegant boats, divided in categories and classes, from all over Europe to Cesenatico, to offer exciting and spectacular races. The Hotels in Cesenatico prepare themselves to welcome all the athletes, fans and the simply curious that simply want to assist the event.

Classe Olimpica Torando, Classe A, Mattia Esse, Top Cat, Tiger and Hobie Cat 16, are just a few of the challenges which will thrill us during this new edition, where for the second time the emerging category of catamarans, the Formula 18, will be present, after the success obtained last year.
Some kinds of competitions , like the triangular races, are repeated each year, while other competitions are decided by the jury according to the winds present the day of the race. The triangular courses are marked by three buoys that the sailors must round three times.

The competitions last about two hours each and at the end the first three winners of each class are awarded. Besides awards for each single competition, the 15th City of Cesenatico Trophy will be awarded to arrives best in all of the day's competitions.

The races begin at noon on Saturday and finish Easter Monday,in the early afternoon.

For the public that is watching the races from Cesenatico's seafront, there are many musical events and typical foods served in the stands put up for the occasion near the west promenade, where the most tasty food is the rustida di pesce (grilled fish).
